By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City tour guide who was caught on surveillance camera stealing a businessman’s car battery has pleaded guilty to theft and damage to property.
Norris (Naurice) Leslie Jr., 27, of Tibruce Street, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 this week, where he admitted to stealing an LTH car battery valued at $450 and breaking a $200 hood lock to access the vehicle.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Farmers Market area. Police say Leslie Jr. pried open the hood of a grey Toyota, removed the battery, and walked away with it. A pair of red and black pliers believed to have been used in the break-in was found inside the hood.
The vehicle’s owner discovered the theft the following morning after being alerted by a neighbor. When he reviewed his home surveillance footage, he saw a slim, dark-complexion man wearing a hat, white undershirt, and 3/4 pants removing the battery. Police later identified the culprit as Leslie Jr.
In court, Leslie Jr. was fined $500 for theft and another $500 for damage to property, plus $10 in court costs—amounting to $1,010 in total. He must pay one fine by December 31, 2025, and the other by January 31, 2026, or face up to three months’ imprisonment for each default.
