By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has taken a firm stance against domestic violence offenders, denying bail to a Ladyville man accused of threatening to kill his ex-common-law wife, her children, and her mother.

Toney White, 31, of Perez Road and Pigeon Street in Ladyville, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Friday after appearing before Magistrate Mannon Dennison on Friday. White faces three serious charges—aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument, threat of death, and threat of damage to property—stemming from a domestic dispute earlier this week.

According to police, White’s ex-common-law wife reported that on Monday, October 20, 2025, he arrived at her Magazine Road home and began shouting outside. When she refused to let him see their son, White allegedly became enraged and threatened to kill her, her children, and her mother, saying, “Ah wah kill you, the kids, and your ma.” He then picked up a dry coconut and threw it at her but missed. Nicholson also reported that he threatened to burn down her house.

After the incident, the woman took to social media to express frustration over a lack of police response, but within two days, police located and charged White.

During Friday’s arraignment, the Prosecutor Sergeant strongly objected to bail, citing the recent surge in domestic violence cases across Belize—many of which have turned deadly. The prosecutor argued that the threats made by White were serious, targeted, and involved children, and that releasing him could endanger the victims.

Magistrate Dennison agreed, stating that while bail is a right, the court must err on the side of caution given the nature of the threats and the rising violence in domestic disputes. He noted that threats to life and property are grave concerns, especially when victims are women and children.

White, who was unrepresented, told the court he had never been convicted before and that his only concern was providing for his three children. Despite his plea, bail was denied.

He was remanded to prison but was informed that he may apply for bail at the High Court.

Authorities say the court’s decision reflects a zero-tolerance stance toward domestic threats and violence—especially as Belize faces a troubling rise in such cases that too often end in tragedy.
