By Zoila Palma: On February 25, 2026, the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) became 1 of 24 organizations across Central America (one of only two in Belize) awarded funding by the European Union and Expertise France to implement the Grandes Bosques de Mesoamérica (Great Mesoamerican Forests) program.
Naomi Usher, who developed the project proposal, represented TIDE and Belize at the forum and induction meeting in Costa Rica.
Usher engaged with partner organizations and the Director of Expertise France to discuss project implementation at TIDE’s Private Protected Lands (TPPL).
“The initiative will strengthen TIDE’s conservation mission through enhanced biodiversity protection, improved data collection, and increased community involvement, while supporting future activities that will benefit the Toledo District” TIDE explained.
