By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three 15-year-old minors were arraigned on Monday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of cattle theft in connection with the alleged stealing of a brown colt from a Sandhill resident. All three were granted bail, while a 20-year-old adult accomplice remains at large.
The minors appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Court #3, where the charge was read to them in the presence of their mothers. No plea was taken due to the nature of the charge, which is indictable but could also be handled summarily.
Police allege that on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Sandhill Village, the trio—along with the adult suspect—stole a brown colt. The adult, whose identity has not been disclosed, has not yet been apprehended but is reportedly known to police.
There was no objection to bail, and each minor was granted $1,500 bail with one surety. As minors cannot sign for their own bail, their mothers assumed responsibility and signed the bail bonds.
As part of their bail conditions, the teens must report to the Ladyville Police Station every Friday, beginning August 7, 2025. Their next court appearance is scheduled for October 6, 2025.
The case adds to growing concerns about youth involvement in rural thefts, especially crimes involving livestock in Belize’s outer districts.
