By Aaron Humes: This evening, Tuesday, police formally arrested and charged Lawrence Anthony Polonio, also known as Makala, a 31-year-old Belizean laborer residing at Fabers Road, Belize City, with the crime of murder. This charge is in reference to the murder of Rafael Caceres on Sunday, March 9.
Police Commissioner Chester Williams revealed today that all of the Caceres brothers were detained except for Rafael in the wake of the murder of Mark Usher. Rafael, he explained, “was not in the loop; he has been a very good citizen, law-abiding, working; we [could not have] anticipated that they would have targeted him. He actually lives far away from the other Caceres brothers, so I guess that because they could not find the other brothers, they went after the one who was most vulnerable.”
The killings are linked through Andre Arthurs, accused in the murder of Mark Usher who is an “affiliate” of the Caceres brothers living on Madam Liz Avenue in the Fabers Road Extension area, and so his killing is especially troubling and painful to law enforcement.
