By Horace Palacio: A theft investigation is underway at the Belize City Post Office after two pieces of foreign mail reportedly went missing from the facility.
According to a report made to the Northside Crime Investigation Branch, the mail—two postcards addressed to P.O. Boxes in Corozal Town and Belize City—was last seen on the desk of a post office employee assigned to a specific delivery zone. The postcards, which did not require delivery due to their P.O. Box addresses, were first flagged during a routine inspection on Friday, April 25.
By Monday morning, both pieces of mail were gone.
The employee in question claimed to have placed them in the central sorting area, commonly referred to as the “main frame,” but a review of the internal surveillance footage reportedly shows no such action was taken.
Following the irregularity, the matter was escalated to postal management, who advised the supervisor to make a formal police report. Investigators have since recorded a statement, and the matter remains under review.
