A Bermudian Landing yard caretaker has been slapped with a hefty $1,000 fine after pleading guilty to using obscene language toward a police officer during a family dispute in which he allegedly threatened to kill his own mother.
Twenty-five-year-old Mark Arnold Moody appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Monday, where he was read a single charge of using obscene language. The charge stems from an incident on Thursday, November 20, 2025, when police responded to a reported domestic dispute at his mother’s residence.
According to the allegations, Moody told one officer, “F—k, I done tell you. You can’t tell me what to do,” causing annoyance to the officer. In court, Moody admitted he used obscene language but denied threatening his mother’s life. He told the court he was frustrated and dealing with personal issues at the time, and he asked for leniency and an opportunity to pay a fine.
The Senior Magistrate considered both mitigating and aggravating factors. Starting from a fine of $1,500, she reduced the amount by $100 after noting Moody had no prior convictions. However, the disrespect shown toward the officer warranted a $100 increase. Moody was then awarded a $500 deduction for his early guilty plea, bringing the final amount to $1,000.
He is required to pay the fine by February 27, 2026, or face eight months’ imprisonment in default.
Police attached to the Bermudian Landing Police Station, reported that around 7:00 p.m. officers visited the residence after receiving information about a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, they met Moody’s mother speaking with a neighbor.
Moody’s mother informed police that her son had threatened to kill her. When one officer attempted to speak with Mark Moody, he responded with hostility, stating, “F—k, dah lie liad,” and later telling his mother, “You should be the one dead.”
Officers warned Moody about his threats, but he continued to curse at them, eventually telling another officer, “F—k, do what you have to do.”
Moody was later arrested and charged for using obscene language.
