By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two teenagers are on remand following a shooting robbery in Belize City.
Police say a security guard on duty at JL’s Quick Loan was shot after two armed men entered the business and opened fire before stealing two firearms belonging to the security company.
Officers responding to the gunshots pursued two suspects seen running from the area. One was caught near West Collet Canal after allegedly discarding a firearm. The second, a 16-year-old minor, was also detained with a firearm in his possession.
In court, 18-year-old Kriston Fernandez and the minor were arraigned for attempted murder and keeping an unlicensed firearm. Fernandez reportedly claimed he only obtained the firearm because he was threatened and referenced losing his mother to gun violence.
His guilty plea to the firearm charge was accepted, with sentencing deferred until February 25th. Both teens were remanded until April 16th on the attempted murder charge.
