By Aaron Humes: Two teenagers have been remanded to Belize Central Prison following their arraignment this morning in connection with an armed attempted robbery at the Perez Butane Service Station that occurred on January 31.

Eighteen-year-old Samsung Sulph of Hattieville, Belize District, and twenty-year-old Tayshaun Herrera of Lacroix Boulevard, Belize City, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where both pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The duo, along with a 14-year-old minor, is accused of attempting to rob a salesman and driver for the service station. The alleged armed robbery transpired when the three masked assailants, armed with a shotgun, a nine-millimeter pistol, and a knife, confronted the salesman/driver while he was waiting for a delivery inside a booth at the gas station.

The victim told police he was held at gunpoint and forced to reveal the location of the cash. During the struggle, he managed to recognize the suspects, claiming they were known to him from his regular gas deliveries in the area.

The 14-year-old minor, who was charged separately, was taken to the Belize Family Court due to his age. He is being held at the New Beginnings Youth Development Center, also without bail.

In the case of Sulph and Herrera, bail was denied due to the seriousness of the offense, and they are set to remain in custody until their next court appearance on May 4. Neither of the accused had legal representation during their arraignment.
