By Breaking Belize News Staff: A teenager who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm has avoided immediate imprisonment after a Magistrate imposed an 18-month suspended sentence, though he remains before the courts on a separate burglary matter.
Jhordan Jordan’s Kelly, of Burrell Boom Village, appeared earlier this week on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, before a Magistrate in Court #6 at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to keeping an unlicensed firearm without a gun license. Kelly was 17 years old at the time of the offense but has since turned 18 on October 8, 2025.
In sentencing, the Magistrate placed Kelly on 18 months’ probation, effective from December 9, 2025, to June 27, 2027, warning that any breach of the conditions would result in imprisonment. As part of the probation order, Kelly must report and sign in at the Hub for six months, attend counselling at the Belize Community Rehabilitation Center, enroll in IT-VET training to develop a trade skill, participate in a personal development program, and refrain from committing any similar offenses during the probation period.
Kelly was jointly charged with 26-year-old Gilbert Ottoman Guzman; however, in light of Kelly’s guilty plea, the charges against Guzman were withdrawn, and he was freed.
Police say Kelly was arrested on September 30, 2025, at his Burrell Boom residence, where he was found in possession of a silver revolver with a black barrel and tape around the pistol grip, bearing the markings “MOD1960 CAL 22” and “Made in Italy.” Authorities confirmed that no firearm license had been granted to him by the Firearms and Ammunition Control Board, as amended by Act #43 of 2023.
Despite the suspended sentence, Kelly is not yet a free man, as he is still facing a pending burglary case before the court.
