By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three people—including a 16-year-old minor—were hauled before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday after a weekend drug bust on Holy Emmanuel Street, but only one remains facing consequences.
The accused—Melanie Mai, 37; Deandra Parham, 24; and a 16-year-old male—were jointly charged with possession of controlled drugs after police reportedly found a total of 89 grams of cannabis at a residence on Sunday, July 27.
While both women pleaded not guilty, the minor took responsibility for the drugs, prompting the prosecutor to withdraw charges against Mai and Parham.
Due to the minor’s age, Magistrate Ludlow Black ordered a Social Inquiry Report before sentencing. The report is expected to be ready by September 5, 2025.
The teen was granted bail of $1,500 with conditions: he must observe a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew and report to the Mahogany Street Police Station every Friday. He was released into his mother’s care.
