By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): An 18-year-old fisherman is nursing grievous harm injuries after his throat was slashed during a night out at a Guinea Grass Village restaurant, an attack he says came from a man with whom he never had a problem, and police are investigating with video footage in hand.
According to the Belize Police Department, the young fisherman of Guinea Grass Village, Orange Walk District, reported that on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m., he was socializing with a friend at a restaurant in the village when a man he has known for about three years arrived with his family.
The teen told police the man walked to where they were seated and spoke to him in an aggressive manner, though he cannot recall exactly what was said. He got up holding a beer bottle, and then, he reported, he was suddenly attacked. The next thing he realized, he was cut and bleeding from his throat area, gripping his throat with both hands to stem the bleeding. He told police that fear took over when he realized he had been sliced, and he thought he was going to die.
The backstory he offered police only deepens the puzzle. Earlier that same evening, the teen said, he had given the man’s cousin a ride on his motorcycle to a mechanic shop, where he encountered the man, who told him he had a problem with the teen’s friend. The teen relayed the message, and the friend replied that he had no problem with the man. Hours later, it was the young fisherman himself bleeding from the throat.
The complainant said the restaurant’s lighting allowed him to clearly see his attacker, that he had no quarrel with the man, and that he does not know why anyone would want to hurt him. He requested court action.
A doctor certified his injuries as grievous harm. Police recorded statements from the complainant and a witness, and video footage of the incident has been obtained.
No one has been detained or charged at this time, and the identity of the man reported is being withheld pending charges.
