By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Belize City man has reported an alleged online scam after paying for a phone that was never delivered.
Police say George Sarmiento, 19, reported that he made contact with an online seller after seeing an iPhone 14 advertised on social media.
According to his report, he transferred a total of $500 to a bank account provided by the seller.
He was later told that the phone had been shipped via airline delivery.
However, checks made at the airline’s offices did not confirm any shipment.
Police have since recorded statements, obtained deposit receipts, and initiated further inquiries, including financial investigations.
Authorities say the matter remains under investigation as they work to identify those involved.
