By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 19-year-old fisherman from Copper Bank, Corozal, is out on bail after being charged with burglarizing the Reef Bar on Regent Street West and allegedly stealing cash along with a handful of beverages.

Walter De La Cruz, who appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Wednesday morning, was read a single charge of burglary. He is accused of unlawfully entering the business establishment located at #17 Regent Street West, and stealing $2,280 in cash, along with two Monster Energy drinks valued at $12, two El Frutal fruit juices valued at $6, and one Red Stripe beer valued at $8. All items are reportedly the property of Avilez.

In court, De La Cruz pleaded not guilty, responding simply, “No, nuh guilty.” With no objection from the prosecutor, he was offered bail of $3,000 plus one surety, under conditions that require him to sign in weekly every Friday at Queen Street Police Station, avoid contact with the virtual complainant, remain 100 yards away from him, and stay away from the bar while the matter is before the court.

As of early afternoon, De La Cruz had not yet met bail. The case has been adjourned to January 23, 2025.
