By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old Belize City resident must now find over four thousand dollars after pleading guilty to possession of 1.3 pounds of marijuana with intent to supply.

Kamron Thomas, an unemployed Belizean of Barbara Harris Street, appeared before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where he wasted no time in accepting responsibility for the cannabis found at a Cet Site residence.

Thomas was jointly charged alongside Angelique Annette Mejia, 32, a warehouse attendant of the Cet Site area, and 21-year-old Ralston McDonald, a construction worker.

In mitigation, Thomas told the court, “I just had the lee weed for my maintenance,” as he took ownership of the drugs.

Senior Magistrate Dennison, noting that this was Thomas’ first offense, opted not to impose the minimum mandatory fine of $10,000 that he was facing. Instead, the court ordered him to pay a reduced fine of $4,005.

Thomas has until September 30, 2026, to pay the fine. In default, he will serve one year imprisonment.

Police reported that on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at approximately 9:45 a.m., police were conducting mobile patrol along Jennifer Smith Street when their attention was drawn to an unpainted two-storey concrete house.

Officers observed two male persons and one female inside the residence behaving suspiciously upon seeing the police. An officer alerted the driver of the patrol vehicle, and officers approached the home.

The trio was asked to exit the residence, and police informed them that a search would be conducted. The house was identified as being occupied by Angelique Mejia.

During the search, Corporal Kerr examined a black suitcase under a bed and discovered a transparent plastic bag containing five smaller green plastic bags filled with what appeared to be cannabis.

All three occupants were informed of the offense of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. At the police station, the suspected cannabis was weighed on a digital scale and amounted to 1.30 pounds.

Thomas accepted responsibility for the marijuana, resulting in his conviction and fine.
