By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): An 18-year-old man is in police custody after he was found in possession of suspected cannabis during a late-night patrol in Orange Walk Town.
Police report that around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2026, officers were conducting mobile patrols along Cardinal Street when their attention was drawn to a group of individuals walking toward the marked police vehicle. One male dressed in black was approached by officers.
Police informed the individual that a search would be conducted for illegal drugs and firearms. During the search of a white and black Jordan-branded bag, officers discovered a transparent plastic bag containing a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis.
The individual was informed of the offense and escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station along with the suspected drugs.
At the station, he was identified as Ayden Perez, an 18-year-old laborer of Mammey Street, Trial Farm Village. Police say he was informed of his rights, completed the required custody records, and signed the acknowledgment forms.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 117 grams. The substance was sealed, labeled, and handed over to the exhibit keeper.
Perez remains in custody pending formal charges.
