By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The XV Under 19 Central American Women’s Volleyball Championship officially served off today, Tuesday, November 11, at the FESAVOL Gymnasium in San Salvador, El Salvador. While the tournament opens with matches between Nicaragua and Honduras, and Guatemala and El Salvador, Team Belize rest on Day 1 and make their debut on Wednesday.
Earlier today, Team Belize held a midday practice session at the FESAVOL Gymnasium, guided by Head Coach Nelissa Ramirez and Assistant Coaches José Fontes and Kevanna Sebastian, to fine-tune their rhythm and court chemistry. They’ll continue preparations with morning sessions scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, at 8:00 am and Thursday, November 13, at 8:00 am.
Belize’s U19 Women’s National Volleyball Team arrived in San Salvador on Monday, focused and ready to build on their silver-medal finish from the XIV edition held in July 2023 at the Belize City Centre. That historic campaign saw Belize edge Guatemala in a five-set thriller and earn three individual accolades: Khaya Gordon was named Best Attacker and Best Scorer, while Blessed Omamurhe claimed Best Blocker.
This year’s squad features a new generation of athletes, with most players under 17 and several having recently competed in the CODICADER U15 Championship. Assistant Coach Jose Fontes noted that the team is youthful but determined, representing the continued growth of Belizean volleyball following the U21 Women’s National Team’s landmark championship win in July 2024.
