By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s national cycling team is set to compete rarky Friday morning and Sunday in the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, with full representation across Junior, Under-23, and Elite categories—a landmark moment for Belizean cycling.

Global Competition, Local Pride
Keith Enwright Jr kicks off Belize’s campaign in the Junior category, racing against top prospects like Michiel Mouris (Netherlands) and Ashlin Barry (USA). His participation also fulfills a key requirement for Belize’s nomination to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
Derrick Chavarria takes on the Under-23 division on Friday, facing rising stars such as Josh Tarling (Great Britain), Romain Grégoire (France), and Thibau Nys (Belgium). The hilly Kigali course will test his endurance and climbing ability.
On Sunday, Jyven Gonzalez, racing via Belize’s second Elite wildcard, joins a stacked field that includes defending World Champion Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia), Remco Evenepoel (Belgium), Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands), Julian Alaphilippe (France), and Tom Pidcock (Great Britain). The Elite race features 165 riders from 57 nations.
Leadership and Representation
Cycling Federation of Belize President Glen Flowers and General Secretary Leticia Westby are accompanying the team and attending the UCI Congress. The CFB emphasized that these international representations reflect Belize’s growing competitiveness and commitment to athlete development.
