By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s three-man cycling team is on its way to Kigali, Rwanda, to compete in the 2025 Road World Cycling Championships.

This year, Belize will be represented by three athletes across three competitive categories:

  • Keith Enwright Jr – Junior Category
  • Derrick Chavarria – Under-23 Category
  • Jyven Gonzalez – Elite Category

Gonzalez enters the Elite division through Belize’s second wildcard invitation, while Chavarria earned qualification for the U23 category. Enwright’s participation in the Junior Category fulfills a key requirement tied to Belize’s nomination for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, reinforcing the country’s commitment to youth development and Olympic readiness.

🇧🇿 Leadership and Representation

Accompanying the athletes are Glen Flowers, President of the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB), and Leticia Westby, General Secretary and Voting Delegate for COPACI. Both will attend the International Cycling Union (UCI) Congress, which coincides with the championship and includes elections for the UCI Management Committee.

Irene Baki, originally slated to travel with the delegation, was unable to attend due to administrative travel requirements, the CFB said.

🌍 A Step Forward for Belizean Cycling

“These representations are a signal of the development of our athletes as we work to become more competitive in our international representation,” the CFB said.

With participation across all categories—Junior, U23, and Elite—Team Belize is poised to gain valuable experience and visibility on the world stage.
