By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize have officially begun their campaign at the 12th Central American Games in Guatemala, with the first wave of athletes arriving in Guatemala City early Wednesday morning. According to Head of Mission Herman Pastor, the delegation touched down around 5:30 am, marking the start of Belize’s multi-sport participation in the regional event, which runs from October 14 to 30.
The Games feature a total of 55 disciplines, bringing together thousands of athletes from across Central America in a celebration of sport, unity, and national pride. Belize will compete in 16 of those disciplines, fielding athletes across a diverse range of events.
Belize’s initial contingent includes teams and athletes from five disciplines: men’s softball, women’s and men’s volleyball, fencing, tennis, and judo. These athletes will represent Belize on the regional stage, competing against Central America’s best.
Among the first to make their presence felt were the Belize Men’s National Softball Team, who wasted no time settling in. Shortly after arrival, they hit the field for their first workout session, signaling their readiness to compete with focus and determination. The softball competition is scheduled to take place from October 17 to 21.
Belize will open their campaign on Friday, October 17, with a highly anticipated match against Panama at 9:00 am at the Carlos Cano Stadium. The fixture marks the first official contest for Team Belize at the Games and sets the tone for the days ahead.
The Central American Games offer a vital platform for Belizean athletes to gain international experience and showcase their talent. With events spread across multiple venues in Guatemala City and beyond, the Games promise intense competition and unforgettable moments.
As the rest of the Belizean delegation prepare to join in the coming days, the early arrivals are already setting the tone. From the judo mats to the volleyball courts, Belize’s athletes are poised to give their all.
