By Aaron Humes: Earlier this afternoon on social media, the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) announced the passing of former General Secretary and founder George Frazer.
The BNTU said, “[Brother] Frazer’s vision, faith, and tireless dedication helped shape the foundation and mission of the BNTU, leaving a legacy that will endure for generations.” It added its condolences to his family, friends and those touched by his life and service, and pledged in his memory “[to continue] the work he so faithfully began.”
Frazer, nicknamed “The Lion” by his colleagues, worked with the BNTU for 29 years before retiring in 2012, and earned a Meritorious Service Award for contributions to education and labour in Belize. He was a prominent fixture at most Union events, speaking forthrightly on the topic at hand and not afraid to pull his punches at the Government or anyone else.
May he rest in peace.
