By Breaking Belize News Staff: Today, teachers across the country are staging a sickout following the Belize National Teachers Union’s (BNTU) firm rejection of the government’s proposed 3% salary increase.

In a statement issued late Tuesday, the BNTU described the offer as “insufficient and disrespectful,” citing surging living costs and what they call “reckless” government spending as key concerns.

Union leaders emphasized that the protest is not solely about numbers but about the broader issues of equity and recognition.

The move has disrupted classes and routines for students and families.

Government is yet to issue an official response.
