By Zoila Palma: Earlier this week, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung officially welcomed a delegation from Belize led by Foreign Affairs CEO Amalia Mai, to the second Taiwan–Belize Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA) meeting.
The discussions, held in Taipei, focused on strengthening bilateral trade and exploring opportunities for deeper economic collaboration.
Belize and Taiwan also held an investment and trade seminar aimed at encouraging partnerships between Taiwanese and Belizean businesses.
Foreign Minister Lin expressed gratitude for Belize’s consistent support of Taiwan’s participation in international affairs and reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to advancing shared interests.
He noted that Taiwan is actively supporting Belize’s white shrimp exports, and expressed optimism that such trade efforts would further cement ties.
Discussions also included cooperation beyond economics—highlighting youth, culture, education, and tourism exchanges as vital pillars of the growing partnership.
CEO Mai emphasized that the strong relationship between Taiwan and Belize is built on shared democratic values and respect for human rights. She highlighted Taiwan’s scholarship programs as instrumental in shaping Belize’s next generation of leaders and professionals.
Taiwan remains a top destination for Belizean students, thanks to longstanding education cooperation.
Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1989, Belize and Taiwan continue to collaborate across a broad range of sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, and public service development.
