By Zoila Palma: A high-level tourism delegation from Taiwan is visiting Belize this week as part of a five-day familiarization tour aimed at deepening travel and business partnerships between the two countries.
Comprising 12 senior executives from leading Taiwanese travel agencies, the delegation is part of the 2025 Central America Tourism Exploration Delegation organized by the Central America Trade Office (CATO) in Taiwan.
The visit, which runs from October 24 to 28, offers participants an immersive experience of Belize’s most celebrated natural and cultural attractions.
The tour began in the Cayo District, where the group explored Xunantunich, an ancient Maya ceremonial site, and ventured into the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave, renowned for its archaeological treasures and spiritual significance.
In San Ignacio, delegates met with local tourism stakeholders to discuss opportunities for collaboration and strategies to position Belize as a must-visit destination for Taiwanese travelers.
Continuing to Belize’s coastal treasures, the delegation journeyed to Ambergris Caye, where they admired the Great Blue Hole, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous among divers worldwide. Meetings with San Pedro tourism operators focused on promoting sustainable tourism and fostering long-term business relationships.
The visit concluded with a snorkeling excursion at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and a meeting with officials from the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) to explore avenues for joint marketing campaigns, cultural exchanges, and B2B partnerships.
Tourism officials say the familiarization trip underscores Belize’s growing visibility in the Asian market and reflects both nations’ commitment to expanding people-to-people connections.
Belize and Taiwan have shared a strong diplomatic relationship for more than three decades, and this latest initiative highlights the enduring friendship and mutual interest in promoting cultural understanding and economic cooperation through tourism.
