By Zoila Palma: As part of a national push to strengthen chronic disease prevention, the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize successfully conducted four workshops from July 15th to 18th, focusing on the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases.
Held in San Ignacio, Corozal, and Dangriga, the workshops brought together healthcare professionals from across the country.
Participants engaged in intensive training sessions covering key areas such as diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease—some of the most pressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) affecting Belizeans today.
The training is part of the ongoing Project for Strengthening Metabolic Chronic Diseases Prevention and Control Systems, a collaborative initiative between the Taiwan Technical Mission, Belize’s Ministry of Health & Wellness, and Taiwan’s Far Eastern Memorial Hospital (FEMH).
Leading the workshops were Belizean seed instructors who had completed a four-week specialized training program in Taiwan.
They were joined by visiting Taiwanese health experts, Dr. Jiang Ju-Ying and Health Educator Hung Ling-Yu, both of FEMH, who shared best practices from Taiwan’s successful public health programs.
Organizers expressed gratitude to all who participated and contributed to the workshops’ success.
