By Zoila Palma: On September 3, 2025, the Taiwan Embassy in Belize and the Taiwan Technical Mission partnered with the Belize Tax Service to launch the Mandarin course.
Attendees included Financial Secretary Joseph Waight, Director General of the Belize Tax Service Michelle Longsworth, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize Lily Li Wen Hsu, Andrew Su Chief of the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize and Heidi Hsiao Mandarin instructor.
“With the growing number of Mandarin-speaking business owners and Mandarin speaking residents in Belize, communication challenges have emerged. To bridge this gap, the Belize Tax Service, in collaboration with the Taiwan Embassy and the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize, launched a Mandarin course taught by 𝗛𝗲𝗶𝗱𝗶 𝗛𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗼, helping frontline tax officers learn the language and understand Taiwanese culture,” the Taiwan Embassy noted.
The ceremony included the performance of Mandarin songs by 2 talented students from 𝗦𝘁. 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲.
“We hope this collaboration will spark even greater enthusiasm for language and cultural exchange, and bring more learning opportunities for everyone,” the Taiwan Embassy added.
