By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Belizean delegation led by Minister of Public Service and Disaster Risk Management Henry Usher spent five days in Taiwan this month, and Taipei is signalling deeper cooperation.
Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung met with the group on August 21 in Taipei City.
Lin noted that Taiwan and Belize have collaborated on multiple projects since establishing diplomatic relations 37 years ago, and pointed to the Taiwan Caribbean Academy launched with the University of Belize.
The academy is aimed at cultivating talent in catering, healthcare, nutrition, smart agriculture, fishing and tourism.
Lin said Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is encouraging domestic enterprises to invest in Belize and purchase Belizean products.
Usher expressed gratitude for Taiwan’s long term assistance in agriculture, education and infrastructure.
Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi later told the delegation that the two countries have made strides in personnel training, public health and women’s empowerment over three decades.
The delegation visited the Civil Service Development Institute, the National Academy of Civil Service, the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, and the National Fire Agency Training Center.
