By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Taiwan marked its 113th National Day today, with President Lai Ching-te delivering a keynote address titled “Taiwan Together for Our Shared Dream” at the Presidential Office.
The celebration included notable guests such as Belize’s Deputy Prime Minister, Cordel Hyde, and Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Dr. Candice Pitts.
In his address, President Lai reflected on Taiwan’s democratic journey, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience amid global challenges.
He asserted that “Taiwan Can Help” is a commitment to international aid and cooperation.
Highlighting Taiwan’s economic advancements, Lai underscored the nation’s leadership in semiconductor technology and the need for inclusive growth.
He announced initiatives to strengthen infrastructure and social welfare, especially in light of Taiwan becoming a “super-aged society.”
The President also reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, urging cooperation with China on pressing global issues while maintaining national sovereignty.
“Regardless of what name we choose to call our nation – the Republic of China; Taiwan; or the Republic of China Taiwan – we must all share common convictions: Our determination to defend our national sovereignty remains unchanged. Our efforts to maintain the status quo of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait remain unchanged. Our commitment to hoping for parity and dignity, and healthy and orderly dialogue and exchanges between the two sides of the strait remains unchanged. Our determination, from one generation to the next, to protect our free and democratic way of life remains unchanged,” President Lai expressed.
As celebrations continue, the message remains clear: Taiwan stands united in its aspirations for democracy, peace, and progress.
