By Zoila Palma: Dr. Candice Pitts, who served as Belize’s ambassador to Taiwan from 2021 to 2025, was honored on Thursday with the Grand Cordon of the Order of Brilliant Star, one of Taiwan’s highest civilian awards, in recognition of her contributions to strengthening diplomatic relations between Belize and Taiwan.
In a statement reflecting on the honor, Dr. Pitts said, “On Oct. 9, the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) conferred on me the Honor of Grand Cordon of the Order of Brilliant Star, a recognition for my contributions to the diplomatic relationship between Belize and Taiwan.”
Dr. Pitts expressed gratitude to Belizean leadership, stating, “I thank the Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. John Briceno, for the distinguished opportunity to serve Belize as its Ambassador for 4.5 years.”
Dr. Pitts also acknowledged the support of the people of both countries and her personal network, noting, “I thank my Belizean people for their support. I thank the government and people of Taiwan for being such gracious hosts, and for my remarkable experiences in Taiwan. I thank my family and friends for their unwavering love and support wherever I find myself doing God’s work, and I thank God for the guidance and protection during my entire tenure.”
Family members traveled to attend the ceremony, marking the occasion as a significant milestone in her diplomatic career.
