SUV driver collides into officers at Guinea Grass checkpoint

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two police officers were injured early Saturday morning after a vehicle allegedly drove without due care and attention at a checkpoint in Orange Walk District.

The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on February 21, 2026, at the Guinea Grass Junction vehicular checkpoint.

Police Officer Eduardo Perez reported that he, along with PC Raul Juchim and two traffic wardens, were conducting checkpoint duties when a black SUV traveling from Belize City toward Orange Walk Town accelerated while passing a pedestrian ramp and turned into the officers.

The vehicle, driven by 26-year-old Cesar Vasquez, reportedly collided into both officers.

PC Perez stated that he held onto the bonnet before pushing himself away, sustaining injuries to his right ankle, foot, and knee. PC Juchim was found on the pavement complaining of pain to his right foot and back.

Both officers were transported to the Northern Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Vasquez was detained, and a urine sample was obtained. He later admitted fault and agreed to settle the matter out of court. He was issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution.

A doctor classified PC Perez’s injuries as harm. PC Juchim is expected to receive further medical attention.
