By Aaron Humes: The Sugar Cane Production Committee (SCPC) has released its latest crop update for the 2024-2025 season, highlighting key production metrics as of Week 23.
From an estimate of 1,062,278 metric tons (MT) of cane available, total of 824,993.444 MT of cane has been delivered, representing 77 percent of the estimated production. 824,782.105 tons have been ground, with a grinding rate of 250.355 MT per hour over 166 days.
Total sugars produced amount to 73,500 MT, broken down as follows: Raw Sugar production totals 37,455 MT; Plantation White sugar production totals 8,640.724 MT; Demerara sugar production stands at 27,404.278 MT. Direct consumption sugar totals 36,045 MT.
The tons cane per tons sugar (TC/TS) ratio is a fairly high 11.222.
The crop has been impacted both by unseasonal early rain that forced a halt in February and the twin plagues of fusarium wilt and froghopper, especially in the Corozal District.
