By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, reported a 15.4% increase in Belize’s sugar export earnings on Wednesday, May 28, during the 2025 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives at Independence Hill in Belmopan. He noted that exports rose by $24.3 million to a total of $182.3 million in 2024, with molasses exports contributing an additional $6.3 million.

Despite the financial boost, he cautioned that excessive rainfall in 2024 and the emergence of Fusarium disease could threaten crop quality. While northern production may decline, he reassured stakeholders that the western sugar industry was showing resilience, with projected increases in cane deliveries.
