Subchamps San Jose Pumas stun champs Yo Creek United 3-1 as Orange Walk Football Association Amateur Championship heats up

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk Football Association Amateur Championship continued its excitement-packed second week of matches at Louisiana Football Field, captivating local football fans with sensational upsets and hard-fought battles.

The highlight of Sunday’s action saw the subchampions San Jose Pumas upend defending champions Yo Creek United in a commanding 3-1 victory. San Jose Pumas came out strong with goals by Nyzer Blanco (33′), Milton Flores (40′), and Moses West (41′). Yo Creek United’s lone response came in the 71st minute from Liam Reyes, but it wasn’t enough to match the Pumas’ dominance.

Sunday, March 16, also saw an intense 1-1 draw between San Jose FC and Sandy Field Wolverines. Gian Matute gave Wolverines the lead in the 60th minute, but Kevin Bacab salvaged a point for San Jose FC with his 82nd-minute equalizer.

Earlier, Progresso FC secured a decisive 2-0 win over San Estevan Soccer Team, with both goals delivered by Raheim Herbert in the 3rd and 23rd minutes.

Meanwhile, Guinea Grass FC and August Pine Ridge Central battled to a high-scoring 3-3 draw. Guinea Grass’s Leomar Narvallez (14′, 52′) and Delbert Diego (38′) found the back of the net, countered by goals from Rene Murrillos (21′), Belarmino Esquivel (70′), and Ryan Murrillos (83′) for August Pine Ridge.

The weekend action began on Saturday, March 15, with an emphatic 5-1 victory for Guinea Grass’ Mi Gente over Crystal FC. Calvin Reid initiated the scoring spree in the 19th minute, followed by goals from Erwin Betancourt (24′), Romario Ramirez (27′), Keizer Rodney (78′), and Alexis Hernandez (86′). Crystal FC’s lone goal came courtesy of David Alvarez in the 50th minute, a valiant effort that couldn’t overturn the tide.

In the night’s second matchup, Trial Farm Legends shut out the LA Tigers with a resounding 4-0 victory. Justin Cardenas led the charge with goals in the 12th (penalty kick) and 61st minutes. Roberto Cardenas added another in the 21st minute, with Rafael Avila sealing the win in the 84th minute.
