By Zoila Palma: On March 25th, 27th, and 28th, Extension Officer Adelita Jones from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, along with Riccy Garcia from the Pesticide Control Board, celebrated the graduation of 195 students from the School Garden Program.
Graduation ceremonies took place at Victorious Primary, Succotz R.C., Santa Elena Primary, San Antonio, and Bullet Tree SDA primary schools.
Over the course of the three-month program, students received hands-on training on sustainable gardening practices, including soil preparation, seedling care, pest management, and organic farming techniques.
Both officers worked with students weekly to equip them with practical skills for growing their own food.
At the ceremonies, each student was awarded a certificate of completion, along with a gardening tool kit, in recognition of their dedication.
The program not only taught valuable agricultural skills but also encouraged teamwork, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for farming.
Teachers and school administrators praised the initiative, noting its positive impact on students’ education and their ability to apply agricultural knowledge.
The success of this program has led to plans for expansion, with more schools set to participate in the upcoming academic year.
