By Zoila Palma:  Seven students from St. Ignatius High School in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District, have been selected to participate in an international STEM training exchange in Charlotte, North Carolina, scheduled for March 9–19, 2026.

The initiative is organized by the STEM U Foundation and will provide the students with an immersive educational experience focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

During the program, the students will gain hands-on exposure to welding, nondestructive testing, engineering, and related STEM careers.

The exchange will include engagement with universities, industry professionals, and technical training institutions, giving participants the opportunity to observe real-world applications and learn about career pathways in the STEM workforce.

The delegation will also travel to Washington, D.C., from March 14–17, where they will visit the Belize Embassy, meet with representatives from the Organization of American States to learn about education and training opportunities, and tour Howard University.

The students—Bettina Myers, Mirianie Canto, Rosella Vega, Zairi Eck, Jacey Moro, Shalliney Oliva, and Xavi Tzib—are being supported through a collaborative effort involving the STEM U Foundation, parents, St. Ignatius High School, and several business and industry donors.
