By Zoila Palma: Today, San Francisco RC School in Orange Walk welcomed back students for their first day of classes after Easter break.
“As we welcomed our students back on this first day of classes following the Easter break, it was truly heartening to see their joy, energy, and enthusiasm filling our classrooms once again. However, it is with deep sadness that we share news of an unfortunate incident that occurred at the school last night,” the school said.
But, one of the classrooms was affected by fire.
“We are sincerely grateful to the Fire Department for their swift response, which prevented the situation from becoming far more severe. Sadly, despite their efforts, the classroom sustained significant damage, and the teacher assigned to that room lost all of her personal and teaching belongings,” the school added.
The school says that essential items were destroyed including ceiling fans, light fixtures, windows, bookshelves, books, chairs, classroom charts, and even sections of the ceiling were destroyed.
The school is now appealing to the public for support to restore this classroom to a safe and comfortable learning environment for our students.
“Our children deserve a space where they feel secure, supported, and inspired to learn. With your help, we can rebuild, recover, and ensure that these students can return to a proper classroom as soon as possible. Your generosity will not only restore a physical space but will also uplift the spirits of both the students and their teacher, reminding them that they are supported and cared for by their community,” the school said.
