By Aaron Humes: On Friday, the Central Building Authority (CBA) placed a stop order on construction activities at Belizean Beach, a property currently under the spotlight due to its contentious ownership and recent development plans.

The parcel in question, number 2422, is reportedly owned by John Pollard, who has been linked to former United Democratic Party (UDP) Minister Anthony “Boots” Martinez, the contractor overseeing the construction project aimed at creating an attraction for cruise visitors. The CBA’s order states that Pollard failed to submit the necessary building plans for a fence blocking the area, and lacks a permit for the ongoing work.

The situation has raised eyebrows, as Belizean Beach was an open space meant for public access. Reports indicate that Pollard acquired the property for just $1,000—shortly before the 2020 general election—raising questions about the motives behind the sale.

Martinez has been accused of obstructing access to the beach area. When confronted by reporters, Martinez insisted he is merely a contractor and distanced himself from ownership, sparking speculation among the public about the true nature of the land deal.

The matter came to light after public complaints from one man of not being able to access the area last week.
