By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sandhill fisherman Stanley Moris Flowers, 37, is home tonight after being granted bail by the High Court and subsequently committed to stand trial for the attempted murder of a police officer and multiple related charges.

Flowers, who spent nearly a year on remand, was granted bail in the sum of $15,000 with three sureties of $5,000 each by Justice Antoinette Moore on Friday, March 21, 2026. However, his release was delayed pending the completion of his preliminary inquiry (PI), which concluded on Monday afternoon in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Appearing unrepresented before the Magistrate in Court #3, Flowers was formally committed to stand trial at the April session of the High Court, set to begin on April 13, 2026. His attorneys, Dickie Bradley and Leeroy Banner, had earlier waived his right to challenge the evidence presented during the PI.

During the proceedings, the prosecution submitted over 15 witness statements along with nearly 20 documentary exhibits, including medical reports, an alleged interview statement from Flowers, chain of custody documents, and over 100 photographs from the crime scene.

Flowers faces several serious charges stemming from a shooting incident that occurred on March 31, 2025, near the Fire Night Club along the Philip Goldson Highway in Ladyville. Police allege that Flowers shot and injured a Police Corporal before opening fire on other responding officers.

According to investigators, the Corporal and another officer were conducting checks at the nightclub when they approached a man later identified as Flowers, who was reportedly armed. After identifying himself as a police officer, the corporal instructed Flowers to raise his hands. Instead, Flowers allegedly pulled out a 9mm pistol and fired multiple shots, injuring the officer.

Police say Flowers also fired at the other officer, damaging a police vehicle, before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. A police pursuit ensued, during which Flowers allegedly fired additional shots at pursuing officers, damaging another police mobile.

The chase ended near Sandhill Village when officers intercepted and knocked Flowers off his motorcycle. A firearm was reportedly recovered at the scene.

In addition to attempted murder, Flowers is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm upon police officers, use of deadly means of harm, dangerous harm, damage to property totaling over $24,000, and keeping a firearm without a license.

Flowers was initially arraigned in April 2025 and has remained in custody until his recent bail approval. He has been informed that he has seven working days to submit the names of any alibi witnesses for his upcoming High Court trial.
