Stabbed and robbed of her security and dignity a year ago; Deannie Requena says she was also robbed of justice: Alleged attackers walk free with no witness; Requena says Prosecution Branch never informed her of court date

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Burton Claire and Kareem Allen, the men previously accused of running former City Councilor Deannie Requena off the road, stabbing and robbing her in 2024; walked from those charges on Wednesday as she was a no-show in court but speaking to Breaking Belize News (BBN) Requena claims she was never informed of any court date by the Prosecution Branch.

“The Prosecution Branch has not made any direct contact with me regarding my case. It’s been over a year and no form of communication has ever been made between them nor myself regarding dates,” Requena told BBN. She added that the last communication she received from the Prosecution Branch was in July 2025 when she was informed that Claire and Allen were being charged with two additional offenses in the same matter. She had not heard anything about the case since then, until around 10:27 a.m. on Wednesday when a former co-worker contacted her to tell her that the Prosecution Branch was trying to reach her. 

“Keep in mind I have the same number for years, and my phone has not rang,” she told BBN.

Requena expressed her utter dismay at the perceived negligence in handling her case. “I blame them, because I was fully prepared for court from the day I was stabbed, robbed and my vehicle was damaged,” she added. She claims she has not received a phone call, a letter, email or text from anyone regarding her case and corresponding court dates. 

She shared with BBN that she is consulting with her legal representation and intends to follow this matter to its fullest extent with any possible legal recourse available.
