By Aaron Humes: The Fisheries Department informed all fishers that following the Fisheries Resource Act and the Subsidiary Regulations, the Caribbean Spiny Lobster (Panulirus argus) fishing season opens from today, Monday, July 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025.
Fishers are encouraged to follow the minimum lobster fishery regulations.
The minimum carapace length is 3 inches; the minimum tail weight is 4 ounces; it is illegal to have in possession any soft shell (moulting) lobster or female with eggs (berried).
It is also illegal to remove from any female lobster any eggs, spawn, setae or fibre with any eggs or spawn attached.
The annual lobsterfests are scheduled this weekend for San Pedro and Placencia and next weekend in Caye Caulker.
