By Zoila Palma: The Office of the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children issued a statement expressing outrage following the brutal murder of Concepcion resident Wendy Mendez.
“This tragic case of domestic abuse turned murder is another painful reminder of the countless lives cut short due to gender-based violence.
What makes this crime even more disheartening is that it occurred during Women’s Month—a time traditionally devoted to celebrating the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of our women. Instead of honoring them, we find ourselves in mourning, grappling with another senseless act of violence that not only devastates families but also undermines our collective sense of security,” the Special Envoy expressed.
The Office of the Special Envoy extended condolences to Wendy’s family and loved ones during this time of unimaginable loss.
“We also call upon law enforcement to spare no effort in ensuring that the person responsible is brought to justice.
Moreover, we also call on communities to speak up, intervene, and support victims in breaking free from the cycle of abuse. Violence against women is not just a personal tragedy; it is a national crisis that demands our collective attention and action,” the office of the Special Envoy added.
The Special Envoy urged Belizeans to work together to prioritize the safety, dignity, and well-being of all women in Belize.
