Today’s feature is on Sergeant Sharaine Yvonne Jacobs, a steadfast protector and advocate in the fight against Gender-Based violence.
With 18 years of dedicated service in the Belize Police Department, she has led critical initiatives to support survivors, strengthen investigations, and promote justice. Her leadership and passion for gender equality continue to make a lasting impact in communities across Belize.
Since starting her career in 2007, Jacobs has become a compassionate and effective leader in addressing issues like domestic violence, sexual abuse, and child neglect.
She led the Domestic Violence Unit at the Ladyville Police Station for 11 years before being promoted and transferred to head the Gender-Based Violence Response and Investigation Unit in Orange Walk.
Her leadership has resulted in increased case reporting, arrests, and improved victim support.
In 2023, Jacobs was promoted to Sergeant and continues to be a key figure in fighting Gender-Based Violence in Belize.
She is pursuing an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Belize and has also studied Social Work.
Jacobs is passionate about advocating for gender equality and women’s rights, participating in community outreach, and reducing the stigma around survivors.
Through her advocacy and commitment, Jacobs plays a pivotal role in strengthening responses to Gender-Based Violence, working tirelessly to create a safer and more just society.
