By Aaron Humes: On Saturday, June 14, a deadly altercation between father and son resulted in the death of 59-year-old Rubio Salazar. The incident, which occurred around 3:30 P.M., is under investigation by Police.
Reports indicate that Rubio Salazar and his son, Daniel Salazar, engaged in a heated argument that escalated dramatically. According to eyewitness accounts, the dispute is believed to have originated from tensions surrounding their pet dogs, one of which, owned by Daniel, was at the front of the yard, while an aggressive dog belonging to Rubio was at the back.
During the altercation, it is alleged that Rubio struck Daniel with a stick. In response, Daniel reportedly inflicted a fatal chop wound to his father’s upper body. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Rubio Salazar was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Daniel Salazar sustained a wound to his temple during the conflict and sought medical attention. He has since been detained for questioning by authorities.
Daniel’s mother, Erminia Muschamp, expressed her devastation over the incident. “I never saw my son as a violent person,” she lamented, while acknowledging that Rubio, her ex-partner, was known to be aggressive.
Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith addressed the media on the ongoing investigation on Monday. “Self-defense certainly arises on the facts; however, for self-defense to be successfully sustained, proportionality is the question,” ASP Smith stated. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution will determine the appropriate charges as the investigation continues. Samples were collected from those present at the scene, and statements have been recorded to aid in the inquiry.
