By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City taxi driver was fined after pleading guilty to wounding a woman who refused to have sex with him.
George Cattouse, 60, of a Cedar Street address, appeared before a Magistrate in Court #3, where he was read a single charge of wounding. He pleaded guilty and asked the court for leniency.
According to police, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the woman was inside her home socializing with Cattouse when he allegedly told her, “So we wah juck.” The woman reportedly responded, “I nuh got time feh that.”
Police say Cattouse then got up, locked the door, and punched her in the face, right eye, and left side of her forehead, causing injuries later classified by a doctor as wounding. He then left the house in a vehicle. The woman later called 911 and made a report to police.
In court, Cattouse accepted the facts but gave his own version of events, claiming that he and the woman had been in an on-and-off relationship for years and that both had been drinking. He admitted slapping her but claimed she damaged his vehicle and also injured him. He told the court that despite the incident, they were “good.”
The Magistrate considered the harm caused to the victim and Cattouse’s culpability, noting that the offense stemmed from a domestic incident. The court used a starting point of $1,500 but reduced the amount after crediting Cattouse for his early guilty plea.
Cattouse was fined $800 plus $5 cost of court, which he must pay by September 30, 2026, or face six months in prison. Before being released, he also had to settle an outstanding court debt of $15.
