By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2025 La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge concluded with an impressive victory for Slim and Trim Like Guava Limb, marking their third consecutive win. The team, consisting of Javier Guardado, Daniel Cruz Jr., and Andres Cabb Jr., displayed great determination and skill, overcoming a three-second lead by Memory Lane Global Missions in the final stage to secure the Kinich Ahau trophy permanently.
In a social media post, Daniel Cruz Jr. expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance they received throughout their journey.
“First of all, I wanna thank God for giving us the strength, health, and courage to win this La Ruta Maya 2025. Without Him, this wouldn’t be possible,” he wrote.
The team’s faith and perseverance were evident as they bounced back in the fourth stage to nullify the close losses in the first three stages and claim the overall victory.
Cruz Jr. also acknowledged the crucial role of their sponsors in their success.
“I wanna thank our sponsor The Guava Limb Café and The Lodge at Chaa Creek for being with us throughout these tough years, never losing hope on us. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible,” he shared.
According to Cruz, the unwavering support they received in the form of resources and encouragement was instrumental in the team’s success.

Cruz also highlighted Slim and Trim Like Guava Limb’s camaraderie and collective effort.
“I’m so proud of myself and my two teammates my Jav Cruz and Andres Cabb. We achieved our goal boys 
we did it,” Cruz Jr. exclaimed.
After winning three consecutive ‘Ruta Mayas’, their unity and determination are evidently key factors in their success. This has led them to become only the second team to win the premier event three times in a row. The Belize Bank Bulldogs are the only other team to achieve that feat.
Indeed, Cruz and his teammates’ achievement is very impressive considering they appeared to be on the brink of defeat after losing three consecutive stages in the final sprint. Going into Stage 4, it seemed the only way they could win was by means of a breakaway, and they were able to achieve that. Now they can look forward to future challenges with the satisfaction of having already achieved greatness in the sport.
