By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Six participants in Taiwan’s Global Pathfinders Initiative arrived in Belize on September 1 to begin placements across the country.
Over the coming weeks they will work with local partners including the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, the Belize Audubon Society, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, and the Belmopan City, Belize City and Orange Walk Town Councils.
The placements cover environmental conservation, sustainable development, local governance and community life, with each offering a different way to experience Belize.
Ambassador Amino Chi welcomed the group over dinner, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones, learn from the people around them and enjoy the experience.
The Global Pathfinders Initiative places young Taiwanese with international organisations abroad. Taiwan’s Ministry of Education has previously indicated its interest in expanding exchanges with Belizean institutions through the programme.
Belize and Taiwan have maintained diplomatic relations for 37 years.
