By Breaking Belize News Staff: A shoplifter who stole a pack of chocolates and a reading glasses worth a total 10 was fined over $300 after being caught redhanded leaving the store.
Rashaan Kadeem Castillo, 35, appeared in court unrepresented on Thursday and was read a single charge of theft. He quickly pleaded guilty to the crime and was imposed a fine of $300 plus $5 cost of court, which is more than 30 times the amount of the items he stole.
On Wednesday, the owner of Simon Quan reported that Castillo entered the store after 6 p.m. and nothing seemed out of the ordinary but when Castillo was leaving, a store employee alerted the owner that Castillo had stolen some items. The store’s security guard conducted a search on Castillo and the items were found. The store owner then made a formal police report.
