By Zoila Palma: Belize’s inflation edged upward in October, with consumer prices rising 0.9 percent compared to the same month last year, according to new data released by the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).
The All-Items Consumer Price Index stood at 120.7, up from 119.7 in October 2024, reflecting continued pressure on household budgets despite easing costs in some sectors.
The increase was driven primarily by higher prices for home rentals, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and food and non-alcoholic beverages.
The ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ category saw a 2.4 percent rise, fueled largely by an 11 percent jump in LPG prices.
The average cost of a hundred-pound cylinder climbed from $116.53 in October 2024 to $129.33 in October 2025—an increase of $12.80. Home rental prices also rose by 1.7 percent compared to last year.
These increases were partially offset by decreases in fuel prices and lower costs for information and communication equipment, which helped ease upward pressure on the overall index.
