By Zoila Palma: Belizean consumers saw a moderate rise in food and beverage costs in October, according to the Statistical Institute of Belize’s (SIB) latest Consumer Price Index report.
The ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ category increased by 1.0 percent compared to October 2024, contributing to the overall upward movement in monthly inflation.
Within the food sub-category, prices rose by 0.6 percent, driven largely by higher meat costs.
Beef, pork, and poultry recorded a combined increase of 2.3 percent.
Non-alcoholic beverages experienced an even sharper rise, climbing 3.0 percent for the month.
The SIB reported significant increases in the prices of fruit and vegetable juices, up 5.5 percent, followed by purified water at 2.7 percent and soft drinks at 2.6 percent.
