By Zoila Palma:  Consumer prices increased by 4.1 percent in July 2026, with higher costs recorded across most categories of goods and services, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).

The All-items CPI rose to 125.3 in July 2026, compared with 120.4 in July 2025, reflecting the overall annual inflation rate.

The main contributors to the increase were Transport; Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels; and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages.

Together, these three categories accounted for more than three-fourths of the inflation recorded during the month, placing additional pressure on household budgets.

Transport recorded the largest increase, with costs rising 12.4 percent compared with July 2025.

Housing-related expenses also increased by 3.9 percent, while Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages rose by 1.9 percent. Insurance and Financial Services was the only major CPI category that remained virtually unchanged from the same period last year.

SIB’s data shows that fuel, housing-related utilities and food continue to be important drivers of rising living costs in Belize.

This means that consumers are paying more for transportation, household utilities and several basic food items compared with a year ago.
